What comes to your mind when you hear the word, Grace? Many times, I have heard friends give testimonies, and the word "it because of the grace of God" didn't fail to be mentioned. So, what is this, Grace?
Grace can be defined as getting something undeserved. it is also the love and mercy given to us by God, not because of anything we have done to earn it. You need it, you cannot live without it, it's one thing that everyone needs, and you can only give it to someone else when you first have been given it yourself because you cannot give that which you don't have.
Today I want us to learn about two types of Grace although they cannot be limited to two, that is Common Grace and Special Grace.
Common Grace is understood by Christians to be a natural gift from God to man. we all do wrong and the Bible calls that sin and it leaves us guilty. Guilty people need to be condemned and punished unless they are forgiven and declared guilt-free. Therefore, instead of immediate Judgment men are showered with blessings.
It's an attribute of God that mostly manifests in; the salvation of sinners, the long-suffering delay of punishment of sin, the word of God, the convincing work of the Holy Spirit, and the influence of God's people.
Special Grace is grace shown towards those who are the chosen ones. Who are they? " But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you." (1 Peter 2:9)
This special grace is manifested in their; sanctification, salvation, redemption, service, glorification, perseverance, election, and predestination. The greatest example of Grace is salvation through Jesus Christ.
What if we looked to the Bible to see what God wants us to know about Grace? Study these verses below to get a good understanding of what Grace is.
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:8-9)
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (2 Corinthians 9:8)Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (Ephesians 4:7)
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:7)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8)
Grace helps us to live for God and do the things He wants us to do in an excellent way
